Apple update “time flies”

Time Flies

Last night it was time again for the traditional Apple Keynote and while September is normally dominated by the new iPhone, this time it was only the Apple Watch and iPad that got the attention. In a presentation with the slogan “Time flies,” Apple announced two new models of both the Apple Watch and iPad.

Read all the announcements in a row below.

Apple Watch Series 6

The biggest new feature of the Series 6 is a new sensor that measures the level of oxygen in your blood. In 15 seconds, an algorithm measures the amount of oxygen in your blood by shining red light sensors on your wrist. With this functionality, more heart research can be done, as well as more research on COVID-19.

In addition to these new features, the Apple Watch Series 6 is also available in new colors (Blue, Silver, Gold, Space Gray and PRODUCT Red) and Apple has also released new bands, including the Solo Loop. This is a band with no holes or clasp, and simply slips around your arm like a bracelet.

Apple Watch SE

In addition to the new Apple Watch Series 6, there is now also a cheaper Apple Watch, namely the SE. The SE contains a slightly slower processor (S5 as opposed to the S6) and does not have the latest sensors, which the Series 6 does. However, it does include sensors for sleep and fall detection, among other things.

Both the Series 6 and also the SE will have new watch faces launched in watchOS 7.

iPad (eighth generation)

Also, the normal iPad has been updated, however, only on the inside. The design has remained the same. The eighth-generation iPad is 40% faster than its predecessor and it owes that to the A12 Bionic Chip. According to Apple, the eighth-generation iPad is even 2x faster than the best-selling Windows laptop, 3X faster than the best-selling Android tablet and 6x faster than the most popular Chromebook.

It is available in 32GB and 128GB storage with both WiFi and WiFi + Cellular.

iPad Air

The iPad Air was also updated last night, and it did receive a completely new design compared to its predecessor, unlike the regular iPad. Like the iPad Pro, the iPad Air now has a physical home button no longer, but one large screen. Also, it has some new colors, including pink, green and blue. The iPad Air still has Touch ID, but it has been moved to the snooze button on the top of the tablet due to the lack of the home button. The lightning port has also been replaced with a USB-C connector.

iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 / tvOS 14 / watchOS 7

Like every year, a completely new version of the mobile operating system will be released this year, and the release day is Wednesday, Sept. 16 (that's today!).

What are quantum computers? And why is everyone suddenly talking about them?
Chances are you've been hearing more and more about quantum computers in recent months. In the news, on LinkedIn, or perhaps even during conversations about AI and cybersecurity. Especially now that a Dutch chip developer is gaining global attention with a new generation of quantum chips, the technology suddenly seems closer than ever. But what exactly is a quantum computer? And why is so much expected of it? From Ordinary Computer to Quantum Computer To understand quantum computers, it's helpful to first look at how a normal computer works. A traditional computer — like your laptop or server — works with bits. A…

With our feet in the mud
Here we are. Not quite recognizable anymore, thanks to AI trying to protect children. Understandable, of course. But believe us: these really are Berry and Frank. More than ten years apart, but in reality, we've always been brothers from another mother. And what do we have in common? A lot... and at the same time, almost nothing. Berry is often the good cop. Calm, down-to-earth, and always working to get things done. I'm usually the bad cop. Direct, critical, and always looking for ways to improve. But that combination is precisely what works. What completely unites us, though, is our love for...

MacAdmins Meeting: What's relevant for your organization?
Last week, we attended the MacAdmins Meeting in Leiden. It's a gathering focused on Apple administration, security, and innovation. What stood out? Developments are moving fast. But more importantly: they are becoming increasingly relevant for SMEs. We'd like to share the key insights with you. What's happening? And what does that mean for your organization? Running AI Locally: Control Over Data and Costs AI is now everywhere. But one question remains central: where does your data reside? A significant topic during the meeting was running AI models (LLMs) locally. Instead of relying on external cloud platforms, more and more...
